Where do import permits for food products originate and do they play any role in certification?
Countries may issue a permit to the importer in the country and often the permit will list import requirements. FSIS program personnel should certify product according to the posted requirements for the country and not the permit which may be slightly different. Permits are useful in confirming the eligibility of products but any new requirements or certifications found on the permit but not posted by FSIS must be verified by FSIS before use.
